Simple Eating Habits for a Slim Body After 50, Nutritionists Say – Don’t Eat This

You are now in your fifties, and you undergo many physical changes every year. If you are trying to lose weight or achieve certain health goals, you may notice that it may seem more difficult with each passing year.

While there are age-related changes you cannot control, there are plenty of things you can do in your daily life to help you achieve your personal health goals as you age.

Metabolism is one of the most important changes that occur as you get older, so eating the right foods and following healthy eating habits is critical to losing weight.

“Your metabolism will change, and because of this, your nutritional needs will be different,” says Morgyn Clair, MS, RDN, author on Fit Healthy Momma.

One problem that many people have as they age is that they may not eat as much throughout the day as they used to. Why would you assume that this would naturally result in a “skinny body”, this is not always the case.

“Many older adults don’t get enough protein in their diet, which can lead to muscle loss,” Claire says. “Muscle naturally burns more calories throughout the day – which means more muscle mass means a faster metabolism overall.”

If you are someone who finds themselves forgetting to eat certain meals throughout the day, or not getting enough essential nutrients through the food you eat, you may feel hungry in the evening hours. According to Claire, late-night snacking can have negative effects on your health and body weight.

“Studies repeatedly show that reducing calorie intake before bed can lead to sustained weight loss,” Claire says. “Because the metabolism changes with age, this can be more pronounced. Eat more balanced meals throughout the day and avoid heavy snacks at night to help the waist.”

Another simple change to make to your diet after age 50 is to shift your focus to eating more whole, plant-based foods. According to Elaine Albertson, Ph.D., RDN, not only will you feel more full because you get more nutrients, but “many plants also contain substances known as Phytochemicals It can help relieve menopausal symptoms. “

Studies have shown a link between processed foods and weight gain, so shifting your focus toward whole foods and away from processed foods is always a good idea, regardless of age.

Since your metabolism changes as you age, it’s important to combine a healthy diet with plenty of movement throughout the day. However, this can be especially difficult if you spend most of your day sitting.

“Sitting all day negatively affects your metabolism and weight,” Albertson says. “Try to get a standing desk and/or move around throughout the day when you can. You’ll burn more calories and improve your energy level and health.”
